Stay up-to-date

This group is for anyone who is writing, or seriously about to start writing, a nonfiction, non-memoir book. Many of us are science writers.

This is the group that will include your invitations to our monthly Google Meet video meetings to discuss our progress on our books. Even if you don’t attend, you may benefit from the resources and meeting reviews that I share on this list.

You should get about one email a month summarizing what we learned in the previous meeting and an invitation to the next one, plus one email a month reminding you of that meeting. Both are likely to include resources and advice.

These free, virtual meetings are on Google Meet for one hour on the 25th of each month, at 5PM PST, 6 Mountain, 7 Central, and 8 East Coast. (Sometimes they get rescheduled.) You'll get the link in your email.

In the meetings, we go around and say our names, the titles of our books, what our goal was last month, did we meet that goal, and what our goal is for next month. Then we discuss whatever questions people have—about craft, pacing, goal-setting, organization, agents, publishers, money, travel, research, ethics, etc.

About me

I’m currently writing a book about dead animals, called Carcass: The Afterlives of Animal Bodies. If you have a strong stomach, you can follow along with the book on my Instagram, @CarcassAfterlives. This book comes from a lifelong obsession with animals, and the fact that even in death they are critically important to life.

Before I started this book I was a science journalist, mostly covering animals for National Geographic, Newsweek, PBS Newshour, Bay Nature, and more. I’ve also worked in related fields like fact-checking. (Presumably, I will do something like that after the book is done as well!)

I also do a ton of social media, and I have over 207,000 followers on my TikTok, RollBones. I do multimedia too, including video, illustrations, and photos. I’m happy to be sharing this group with you!
